Houses
Here at Woodcot Primary School, we are very proud of our house system. Houses are essential, as they create community spirit and give the children an opportunity to contribute to something bigger that involves children from all year groups. The system encourages pupils to become responsible citizens, successful learners and confident individuals. It also enhances their development of respect for each other and for their community.
Every pupil is allocated one of four houses based on a woodland theme, each associated with a colour:
- Red = Holly
- Yellow = Beech
- Green = Willow
- Blue = Hawthorn
Siblings will be allocated the same house and any new pupils that arrive during the academic year will be allocated a house.
At the beginning of each year, one House Captains (Y6) and one Vice captains (Y5) is selected to represent each house. House Captains and Vice Captains have specific duties to carry out:
- demonstrating a responsible attitude to school life and setting a good example for others to follow.
- promoting their house across the school to help motivate pupils to do their best.
- working closely with Mrs Popham (AHT) to plan useful events throughout the year.
- writing and leading house assemblies.
- leading their house at school events.
Pupils can earn house points in various ways: kindness, good behaviour, effort, school work and homework—and for demonstrating our Woodcot values of independence, consideration and resilience.
House captains total the points each week, with the winning house awarded the house cup at the end of each half term. The cup will display the colour ribbons of the winners and the pupils in the overall winning house will be awarded their own non-uniform day on the first day back after half term.
