Pupil Voice
At Woodcot, we really believe in the importance of pupil voice. This means we want to hear what our students have to say and give them chances to be involved in our school. We think it’s very important for every child to feel listened to, valued, and confident in sharing their ideas.
Our students have many roles that help them share their thoughts. For instance, our Young Governors meet to discuss plans for the school, giving them a say in how things are run. House Captains work to bring their houses together and create fun activities for everyone. Additionally, members of our Junior Road Safety Officer team help promote road Safety, helping to ensure safe travel to and from school for our whole community.
By letting students take on these different responsibilities, we ensure that their unique voices are heard. This makes our school a better place for everyone. At Woodcot, we believe that when students are involved in important decisions, they feel proud of their school. We work hard to create a cheerful environment where all children can thrive and enjoy every day.
Head Boy and Head Girl:
Our head boy and head girl are selected from year 6 and are responsible for representing our school and leading a large team of prefects. They serve as role models for our students, and provide a link between students and the school’s leadership team to enable pupils' ideas to be heard quickly and efficiently. They demonstrate exceptionally high standards and represent our school at numerous events across the year.
Prefects:
Our team of prefects from year 6 help maintain the smooth running of the school by completing weekly duties around the school site in a hi-vis jacket, supporting key stage 1 and dealing with any incidents by reporting them to the nearest staff member. They support the school by attending public events, acting as an ambassador for the school and politely welcoming or directing visitors. They support the school’s transition projects by leading sessions and showing prospective students how to be a good learner. They also provide a link between students and staff.
Young Governors:
Our Young Governors are representatives from Year 2 to Year 6, elected by their peers. They meet regularly to address issues brought forth by their classmates. Through their proactive involvement, they contribute to a positive school environment where student voices are heard and valued.
House Captains and Vice House Captains:
Our House Captains and Vice House Captains play a crucial role in fostering house spirit and unity. The role of a House Captains is one of privilege, pride and responsibility. It is more than just a title and a badge and requires dedication and commitment for an entire year. House Captains work closely with our young governors to take part in active citizenship, whereby they lead a series of charitable events throughout the school. This may include major national events e.g. Children in Need, to more local events e.g. food collection for the local foodbank.
Mental Health and Well-being:
We have a wellbeing dog called Shadow who supports us to promote mental health awareness. He will shortly be joined by Mental Health and Well-being Ambassadors who will actively advocate for the importance of mental well-being amongst students.
Eco-Warriors:
Our Green Team takes charge of environmental issues within the school, working tirelessly to promote eco-friendly practices and sustainability. Through various initiatives and campaigns, they inspire their peers to adopt green habits and contribute to a greener, healthier planet.
Junior Road Safety Officers:
Selected through a rigorous application process, our Junior Road Safety Officers are passionate advocates of road safety education. They lead assemblies, promote campaigns such as Walk to School Week, and impart valuable knowledge to their peers, ensuring a safe environment for all members of our school community.
Librarians:
Our librarians, selected through a written application process, play a pivotal role in maintaining our school library as a welcoming and enriching space. With their dedication and enthusiasm, they assist fellow students in finding resources, keeping the library tidy, and fostering a love for reading and learning.
